Gemini can now build a whole deck in Google Slides. When you still want a dedicated tool.

For most of the AI presentation era, the office suites were the weak option: a sidebar that suggested a slide, a button that made an image. That changed this year. On 30 June, Google rolled out Gemini generation of full, native, editable, brand-matched decks inside Google Slides, grounded in the content already in your Drive. Gemini in Docs, meanwhile, learned to generate visuals and diagrams in July and expanded to 19 languages.

If you work in Google Workspace, this deserves a fair look before you reach for anything else. Here it is.

What Gemini in Slides does well

It knows your Drive. Point it at the strategy doc, last quarter's deck and the spreadsheet with the numbers, and it builds from them. No upload, no copy and paste. For an internal deck built from internal documents, that is a real advantage no outside tool can match without integrations.

The output is native. The slides it makes are ordinary Google Slides: every element editable, your team's themes applied, comments and sharing as usual. Nothing to import, nothing to convert.

It is already paid for. If your organisation has Gemini in Workspace, there is no new subscription, no new login, no procurement conversation.

For a weekly update, a project readout or a deck that will only ever be seen inside the company, that combination is hard to argue with. We would not tell a Workspace team to use anything else for those.

Where a dedicated tool still wins

Several versions to choose from. Gemini gives you one deck and a chat to edit it. NextDocs generates two to four complete decks from the same brief, optionally with a different model each, so you pick the structure you would have written instead of editing the one you were handed. Choice of model. Gemini in Slides runs Gemini. NextDocs runs a ladder: GPT-5.6 on the fast lane, Gemini 3.8 Flash on quality, Claude Sonnet 4.6 on premium, and a picker with GPT-5.5, Claude Opus 4.8, Kimi K2.6 and more. Different models write differently, and for a board deck or an investor deck you may want a specific one.

Documents, not only decks. The same NextDocs project produces the proposal, the report and the one-pager alongside the deck, from one brief and one brand kit, and exports each to the right format: PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Google Docs and, yes, Google Slides.

Both suites. A deck built by Gemini lives in Google Slides. If half your clients open PowerPoint, you will be exporting and fixing fonts. NextDocs exports to PPTX and to Google Slides from the same source, with your uploaded fonts embedded where the format allows.

Research with citations. For a deck that has to be right about the outside world, NextDocs deep research searches and crawls the web and cites what it used. Gemini grounds in your Drive, which is a different thing.

Video and a team in the same file.
